Awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2002 for his novel EMPIRE FALLS, Richard Russo grew up in Gloversville, New York, the small, working-class town that has provided the setting for several of his books. When he left his own native small town, it was with hopes of becoming a college professor. While finishing up his doctorate, he took a creative writing class; and a new career path opened in front of him. He has taught at universities in Illinois and Connecticut, and at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. In addition to novels, Russo has also written several movie screenplays.
Linda Greenlaw is the author of three bestselling books about life as a commercial fisherman. The following year, Greenlaw was selected as the winner of the 2004 New England Book Award in the nonfiction category. A commercial fisherman for nearly 25 years, today Greenlaw lives on the tiny island of Isle au Haut seven miles off the coast of Maine. She is currently taking a break from swordfishing to captain a lobster boat.
